I purchased a nice little black 2012 Chevy Cruze here — drove an hour from home in the snow to test drive it knowing it was exactly what I wanted. Our sales guy Alex raved about the intensive inspection this car and all others have had to pass to get out onto the lot — however, both windshield wipers were completely rotted and torn, flopping around on the windshield as we drove. When my dad pointed this out, our sales guy just brushed it off and blamed it on the ice and the wipers being frozen. Sure, it was cold, but these wipers were shredded and a complete safety hazard. Secondly, the car was leaking oil under the hood and stank horribly of it; the “mechanic” who came over to look at it tried to tell us it was coolant we were smelling but my 52 year old dad with experience working on his own cars since he started driving knew it was oil and showed the salesmen where it was leaking. They said they didn’t know anything about it and acted like because it wasn’t a Mazda, they couldn’t tell us what was wrong, but something as simple as the stink of oil burning under the hood is universal and there was no reason to blow it off like that when an oil leak can be a very serious problem. After we discussed and were considering not taking the car due to the serious safety hazards that could not have possibly passed a simple inspection, they worked with their manager to ensure that if we bought the car we could take it to Polar Chev the following morning for an official inspection/ repair and 5 days to return the vehicle if something major was wrong. We still drove home with wipers that were shot and it was snowing at the time, so I’d hope that next time they make sure their used cars are still at least safe enough to drive off the lot. Luckily the oil leak was small and only came to $310 altogether, which Walser Mazda paid to have repaired. Alex was helpful in getting the loan finalized and wrapping things up relatively quickly, and I can’t say enough good things about Jeff at Polar Chev; he was straight forward and honest, ensured that the new wipers were put on first thing, and even assisted my dad with questions and concerns on his Chevy Equinox. I’d recommend this place, just be sure to do your own inspection and don’t just trust that the car is safe because they say so.
